Is Eating Apple Seeds Harmful Or Poisonous? Are They Bad For You? – SaluBris HealthLine

Apple Seeds

We had a message last month about apple seeds, and the question was “Is eating apple seeds harmful and poisonous”, so we decided to share this tip with you since we care a lot about you the reader.

Apples are widely grown species in the genus Malus and are incredibly nutritious and beneficial to health. They fight asthma, prevent cancer, and low diabetes, and are good for the heart but what of the seeds?

Apple seeds contain amygdalin which is composed of cyanide and sugar which switches into a highly poisonous chemical in the digestive system and are not recommended when eating apples.

Amygdalin is converted to cyanide after 2 or more hours of digestion in the body and becomes toxic in the body capable of killing certain cells in the body when the seeds of apples are chewed.

Cyanide is highly toxic and prevents cells in the body from using oxygen supplied by the heart hence weakening the heart and brain since they need oxygen most.

However, a single seed won’t be harmful to you but taking in about 150 to 200 (60 g to 100 g)seeds of apple can be fatally hazardous to your health and can even cause death.

The least number of seeds in an average apple is about 5 to 8 which when chewed may not be toxic or poisonous to the body.
