Nurse's tragedy: Dengue strikes two sons, takes one away

Shimul Parveen feared the worst when her two boys were unwell and were rushed to her job, Kurmitola General Hospital, where she worked as a senior staff nurse.

Nonetheless, she found satisfaction in her significant expertise, knowing that her compassionate care had often resulted in

dengue victims recovering from the mosquito-borne sickness.

But on Wednesday, the seasoned nurse’s life was destroyed when her younger son, Alif Islam Shaon, died of dengue.
Shimul’s 14-year-old son, Ayon Islam, had not totally healed from dengue but was released from the hospital yesterday.
Tajul Islam Milon, Shawon’s father, stated there was no mistake in his son’s treatment, but the youngster had left them permanently.
“Our universe was made up of both guys. “How will we live now that we’ve lost our little boy?” The bereaved father inquired.

Simply intolerable

“It’s an unfortunate twist of fate,” the bereaved nurse’s colleague Rekha Magret Costa said. “Shimul has worked tirelessly to care for patients suffering from Covid-19 and dengue fever.” Her son’s death is absolutely awful now.”
According to Rekha, a senior staff nurse at the hospital, the eldest brother, Ayon, was brought to Kurmitola Hospital’s ICU last Friday after catching dengue.
Shaon, the younger sibling, was taken to the dengue ward on Monday and has stayed there owing to his reasonably stable health.
“One son in ICU, another in the ward – Shimul had a lot of trouble handling two sick sons,” Costa explained.
Shaon’s condition unexpectedly worsened on Tuesday, according to a doctor at Kurmitola Hospital who did not want to be identified.
“Because Kurmitola did not have a pediatric ICU, he was transferred to a private hospital in the capital and placed on a ventilator.” “Unfortunately, Shaon died on Wednesday night while on his way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital,” the doctor stated.
Despite the fact that Ayon had not entirely recovered, he was discharged owing to the family’s misfortune, he explained.
Sharon was laid to rest at a Tongi graveyard following a namaj-e-janaza (funeral) at Kurmitola Hospital at 11 a.m. on Thursday.
Shaon and Ayon resided in College Gate in Tongi with their parents. Sharon attended a private English medium school in the neighborhood.
Meanwhile, 11 more dengue deaths were reported in the previous 24 hours, bringing the total number of dengue deaths in Bangladesh this year to 778.
