George Addo Junior, a former student of Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School (PRESEC), has shifted camps from Multimedia to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).
George Addo Junior, an intelligent Sports Broadcast Journalist, has joined the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) after working on the Ghanaian and African scenes for over 10 years.
George has spent the previous 10 years working for Ghana’s largest media company, the Multimedia Group Limited, and will utilize that expertise to assist the BBC consolidate its position as Africa’s and the world’s premier sports news platform.
George is the third Ghanaian sports journalist to join the BBC and work on-site in the United Kingdom, following Yaw Ampofo Ankrah and Ibrahim Sannie Daara.
George earned a bachelor’s degree in languages and psychology from the University of Ghana, as well as a post-graduate diploma in sports marketing and communication from the Global School of Business in the United Kingdom.
George’s interest in athletics stretches back to his college days. During his stay at the University of Ghana, he was a significant role in the Sports for Development Programme and did considerable research for the Ghana Universities Sports Association.
George went up through the ranks of Radio Universe, the campus station, to the post of Head of Sports, where he directed the strategic coverage of two University of Ghana Sports Association games: the West African Universities Games and the World University Games.
George made the shift to Joy FM with ease, and he was the radio station’s principal football pundit for nine years.
In this role, he offered excellent commentary for five Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) competitions, two European football championships, five UEFA Champions League seasons, three FIFA World Cup tournaments, and seven Ghana Premier League campaigns.
George was nominated three times for the PAV Ansah Communications Award under the prestigious EMY Africa Awards programme and was named one of the best English commentators Ghana has ever produced by the venerable Mirror newspaper. His commentary on radio and television is crystal clear, distinct, and captivating.
George has also been featured on some of the world’s most well-known and major media outlets, including SuperSport, talkSPORT, Newzroom Afrika, DW, and the BBC, which is currently his home.
George began his new work at the BBC in March and has regularly stepped in as a football reporter on the station’s weekend Sports World radio show since then.
Despite having a permanent home at the BBC, Addo still produces a few radio and television programmes for the Multimedia Group in Ghana, as the BBC is a partner station there.
